Yes! Spray paint is perfectly designed for decorating wicker baskets, as you can effortlessly cover nooks and crannies much better than a brush. Read on to discover how to turn a simple wicker basket into an eye-catching accent piece in just a few simple steps.
Put down a dust sheet to protect your floor and clean your basket with Krud Kutter to remove any dust or dirt. Rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry.
Shake the can vigorously for one minute and set the Switch dial to number 2, selecting Standard output. The Standard output is easy to use and offers a classic spray pattern with great coverage. Ideal for baskets, storage boxes and other décor such as ceramic ornaments.
Now you’re ready to start spraying! To achieve a smooth finish, hold the can roughly 30cm away from the surface. Spray each section of the basket vertically, from side to side, in a steady back and forth motion, while slightly overlapping each stroke. If spraying a bare metal or plastic basket, make sure to use a suitable primer first.
Once done, set the Switch dial to number 3, selecting Low Output. Perfect for textured surfaces, the Low Output nozzle sprays a lower volume of paint for more control. Make sure to cover any nooks or crannies you may have missed, spraying in steady, vertical strokes.
Top tip: After use, turn the can upside down and spray for 2-3 seconds to clear the spray nozzle, so it’s ready for your next project. Repeat this step for each nozzle used by rotating the dial.
And that’s it! Touch dry in 15 minutes and hard dry in 4 hours, stand back to admire your eye-catching new basket. We went for soft off-white Seashell. Whether you want to update an old piece of furniture, or put your own stamp on uninspired décor, Switch is perfect for your next upcycling project.
