How to spray paint a ceramic vase

Want to transform décor with a striking new shade? Use Switch’s unique 5-in-1 nozzle to revamp your next upcycling project with a perfectly flawless finish. Read on to discover how to turn a simple ceramic vase into an eye-catching accent in just a few simple steps.

What you will need

  • Rust-Oleum Switch
  • Krud Kutter / Cleaner & Degreaser
  • Clean cloth
  • Dust sheet

Steps

  1. Clean your vase with Krud Kutter in order to remove any dust or dirt. Rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry. You may also want to put down a dust sheet to protect your floor.

  2. Shake the can vigorously for one minute and set the Switch dial to number 2, selecting Standard output. The Standard output is easy to use and offers a classic spray pattern with great coverage. Ideal for vases and other décor such as ceramic ornaments and jewellery dishes.

Now you’re ready to start spraying! To achieve a smooth finish, hold the can roughly 30cm away from the surface. Spray each section of the vase vertically, from side to side, in a steady back and forth motion, while slightly overlapping each stroke. If spraying a bare metal or plastic vase, make sure to use a suitable primer first.

  3. Once done, set the Switch dial to number 3, selecting Low Output. Perfect for ribbed or textured vases, the Low Output nozzle sprays a lower volume of paint for more control. Make sure to cover any nooks or crannies you may have missed, spraying in steady, vertical strokes.

Top tip: After use, turn the can upside down and spray for 2-3 seconds to clear the spray nozzle, so it’s ready for your next project. Repeat this step for each nozzle used by rotating the dial.

  4. And that’s it! Touch dry in 15 minutes and hard dry in 4 hours, stand back to admire your eye-catching new vase. We went for vibrant Pink Freesia for a bold, saturated accent.

Whatever your project, Switch has a spray nozzle to suit the job. Choose from 22 stunning colours and revamp furniture with a refreshing new makeover, in a flawless matt, satin or gloss finish.
