Ready to level up your shelves? Switch has a spray pattern to suit any project. The innovative, 5-in-1 nozzle means you can choose the best output for the job, for the perfect finish in perfect time. Read on to find out how to upgrade an uninspired shelving unit with an unexpected pop of colour.

What you will need

  • Rust-Oleum Switch
  • Krud Kutter Cleaner / Degreaser
  • Scraper or sanding block
  • Clean cloth
  • Dust sheet

Steps

  1. Remove any loose or flaking paint by thoroughly scraping or sanding your shelves. You may also want to put down a dust sheet to protect your floor. Clean your shelves with Krud Kutter in order to remove any dirt, grime or other contaminants. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.

  2. Shake the can vigorously for one minute and set the Switch dial to number 4, selecting Vertical Fan. The Vertical Fan is specifically designed for even coverage on a wide, horizontal surface. Ideal for shelving and other long, flat surfaces such as benches, picture frames, chairs and more.

Now you’re ready to start spraying! To achieve a smooth finish, hold the can roughly 30cm away from the surface. Spray each shelf horizontally, from side to side, in a steady back and forth motion, while slightly overlapping each stroke. If spraying bare metal or plastic, make sure to use a suitable primer first.

  3. Once done, set the Switch dial to number 5, selecting Horizontal Fan. The horizontal fan is designed to tackle tall, flat surfaces. Spray the shelving’s vertical supports up and down for even coverage, and apply a second coat within an hour if necessary.

Top tip: After use, turn the can upside down and spray for 2-3 seconds to clear the spray nozzle, so it’s ready for your next project. Repeat this step for each nozzle used by rotating the dial.

  4. Touch dry in 15 minutes and hard dry in 4 hours, stand back to admire your refreshed shelves. We went for sophisticated mid-grey Anthracite, in a subtle satin sheen, for a modern makeover.

Whether you’re painting large pieces of furniture or smaller accessories, there’s a spray nozzle to suit your project. With 22 stunning shades and matt, satin and gloss finishes to choose from, Switch is a simple, effective way of upcycling décor.
