Instantly add a personal touch to your home décor with Switch. The innovative, 5-in-1 nozzle lets you choose the perfect spray output to suit your upcycling project, revamping everything from larger furniture to smaller accessories. Read on to find out how to transform a simple candlestick holder into a striking new accent.

What you will need

  • Rust-Oleum Switch
  • Sandpaper / sanding block
  • Krud Kutter / Cleaner & Degreaser
  • Clean cloth
  • Dust sheet

Steps

  1. Clean your candlestick holder with Krud Kutter in order to remove any dust, dirt or grease. Rinse thoroughly with water and a clean cloth, before allowing to dry. You may also want to put down a dust sheet to protect your floor. If the candlestick holder has any old paint or a glossy finish, lightly sand it down with fine-grit sandpaper or a sanding block to aid adhesion.

  2. Shake the can vigorously for one minute and set the Switch dial to number 2, selecting Standard output. The Standard output is easy to use and produces a classic spray pattern and coverage. It’s perfect for candlestick holders and other small projects like vases and jewellery dishes.

Now you’re ready to start spraying! To achieve a smooth finish, hold the can roughly 30cm away from the surface and apply the paint in light, even coats. Spray each section of the candlestick holder vertically, from side to side, in a steady back and forth motion, while slightly overlapping each stroke. If spraying a bare metal or plastic holder, make sure to use a suitable primer first. Once done, apply a second coat within an hour if necessary. Make sure to cover any nooks or crannies you may have missed, while continuing to spray in steady, vertical strokes.

Top tip: after use, turn the can upside down and spray for 2-3 seconds to clear the spray nozzle, so it’s ready for your next project. Repeat this step for each nozzle used by rotating the dial.

  3. Touch dry in 15 minutes and hard dry in 4 hours, remember to let the candle cure for a few days before use. Still deciding on a colour? We went for Cotswold Sage, a soft, muted green for a refreshingly elegant look.

Whether you want to update an old piece of furniture, or put your own stamp on uninspired décor, Switch is perfect for your next upcycling project. Simply select the spray output to suit the job and choose from 22 stunning colours. Available in matt, satin and gloss finishes.
