February 2015 Competition Winners

Thank you to all who entered our Make It Yours competition in February.

We loved seeing all your upcycles and transformations, as always it has been tough to choose the winner and runners up.

The £250 top prize this month has gone to Katie Banks who has cleverly updated a tired 1970’s food mixer, into a chic retro kitchen aid. She used Painter’s Touch in Candy Pink for the main body and then Painter’s Touch Antique White for the details. There really is no need to buy new when you can create transformations like this.

Runners up

Helen Mackie salvaged a chest of drawers from the website Freecycle along with two pine effect bedside tables of her own. Using Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Antique White she painted the frame and then made features out of the drawers with Duck Egg. She finished the look with antique black handles and a coat of Furniture Finishing Wax.

Nicola Bentham deconstructed a decorative 1960’s bedside table from a bedroom suite and gave it a new lease of life with Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Dusky Pink. A pretty retro transformation that is right on trend.

Pat Boettcher took her up-cycle large scale and painted her dated pine kitchen cupboards with Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Clotted Cream. She says it has saved her a fortune as she was going to replace the cupboards with very similar cream units.

Olivia Owens has upcycled an old teak TV cabinet into a very trendy coffee table. To achieve this she painted the main body of the piece with a combination of Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Duck Egg and Graphite, mixing the two together to achieve a muted Duck Egg colour. She then finished the piece with a wooden plank top, perfectly fitting in with the table’s new style.

Susan Howson has added a splash of colour to this set of charity shop drawers, using striking colour combinations of Pumpkin, Sage Green and Antique White from the Chalky Finish Furniture Paint range. To finish she sealed the paintwork with a coat of Furniture Finishing Wax (photo 7).

Tijen Mustafa has created a very sophisticated look from what was an old pine cabinet by simply painting it with Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Winter Grey and leaving the top sanded back. The finishing touches included a coat of Furniture Finishing Wax and a set of antique style pewter effect handle pulls.

Anna Jobling has personalised an old TV cabinet given to her by her mum, with the use of Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Anthracite and a set of funky doorknobs. Completed with a coat of Furniture Finishing Wax this now stands pride of place in her flat.

Debbie Carmichael has gone drab to fab with her set of two chairs picked up from a car boot for the bargain price of £2.50 each. She loved the shape of them and the upholstered seats and backs, so updated them with a coat of Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Chalk White and some pretty rose fabric. She lightly sanded the paintwork for a faintly worn look and sealed with a coat of Furniture Finishing Wax. She says ‘they now look fresh and clean, and what’s more, nobody else will have a pair of chairs quite like these’.

Fay Powell has transformed the corner of her spare room into a crafty haven with the use of Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Chalk White. Updating not one but three pieces, including a bureau, a piano stool and a shelf unit, she has created a unique space.
