Here at Rust-Oleum HQ we had another great month for entries and thoroughly enjoyed seeing all of your upcycling projects and furniture transformations. It was a very tough task to pick our favourites from so many great projects, but with much deliberation the ten runners up and our lucky top prizewinner have been chosen.
The top prize this month of £250 went to Dovile Jablonskiene who has beautifully and very stylishly personalised her daughter’s play kitchen. Starting out as drab and run of the mill, Dovile has spray painted it all one uniform colour using Rust-Oleum Surface Primer as a base then finishing with Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Craft Enamel in White Gloss. To give it a modern twist she has then spray painted the handles, feet, sink and tap in copper and added a trendy and very current marble work surface with accessories to match. A brilliant transformation with bags of personality.
Natalie Jasper has very cleverly turned her living room coffee table into an entertainment station for her young children by transforming the top surface into a chalkboard using Rust-Oleum Magnetic Chalkboard Paint. To complete the makeover she went on to paint the rest of the table in Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Hessian with Graphite for the interior of the drawers. To protect the finish she then waxed the furniture paint with Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax in clear. As a finishing touch she renewed the knobs on the drawers and the transformation was complete. A functional yet beautiful piece.
Vicky Jenkinson has given a new lease of life to an old oak child’s chair with the use of Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Anthracite and a bright pop of colour with Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch brush paint in Bright Yellow. The combination of the original wood and the bright yellow spindles makes this piece truly individual and super trendy.
Laura Perry successfully stamped her own mark on a pair of bedside tables and a chest of drawers she purchased to furnish her new home. With Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Anthracite she fully painted the pieces then added stenciled details in Winter Grey to the front of the drawers and around the knobs. Laura was very pleased with the luxe feel of the rich Anthracite and decided to finish the drawers off with some new rose gold and white ceramic handles. Laura says that ‘all my friends and colleagues are jealous and I have convinced them to start their own projects with this lovely paint — so easy to work with and a professional finish’.
Jess Kitson has transformed the look of her living room and storage options with some simple but stylish homemade shelving. Built into either side of her fireplace they make a bold statement – painted in Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Graphite they complement her cool grey colour scheme perfectly. Finished with a coat of Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax they really look the part.
John Farrell, using stencils, has turned a plain blanket box into a work of art using Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Winter Grey with a base of Antique White. The lace type design makes it totally unique and a very decorative piece.
Steve Clark has very skillfully painted this impressive Velociraptor in his garden using Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch in Oxford Green, Green Apple, Black Matt plus some Rust-Oleum Stove & BBQ Paint in Black. Named Ellie, she is sure to turn heads.
Tim Berry picked up a bargain wooden unit from a charity shop to tackle as his first upcycling project. Despite the unit being in bad condition Tim was able to sand it back and get creative with paint to transform its appearance. He used Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Flint as the main colour and Duck Egg and Lilac Wine as accent colours for the drawer and cupboard fronts. To finish he used Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax in dark over the top to create an aged vintage feel.
Alex Barraclough repurposed two disused apple crates into some nifty bedroom-shelving units using Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Graphite and highlighting the edges with Rust-Oleum Neon Pink. These have now been given a new lease of life and serve as handy shelves to store and display her jewellery.
Edyta Fober has beautifully restored a country chic style dressing table and mirror with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Cocoa. The lovely rich brown is off set with dark French typography stencilling to the drawers, creating a chic end result.
Emilie Cauet has made a wonderful job of transforming this stunning Welsh dresser into a highly desirable piece. Using Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Graphite she has given the outside of the dresser a lovely dark velvet appearance, counteracted with the Clotted Cream interior and sanded back shelves and counter top. With the final touch of some crystal knobs this is a beautiful statement piece.
