Every month our job seems to get harder and harder with some astonishing creativity and ingenuity. With much deliberation the ten runners up and our lucky top prizewinner have been chosen.
The recipient of our top prize of £250 this month is Heather Prentice with her spray painted coffee table. Heather used a stunning stencil design to spruce up a tired, ordinary coffee table she found at her local car boot sale(photo 1). Starting with Rust-Oleum Surface Primer in White for a base coat and finishing with Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch in Slate Blue, Winter Grey and French Lilac she created a geometric design. With similar geometric finishes featuring in many of this season’s home trends, Heather’s table is very current and our judges loved it!
Anna Wycliffe-Jones with a revamped set of patio furniture. Anna used Rust-Oleum Universal All Surface Paint in Lagoon, one of our newest colours, to successfully refresh a tired table and chairs.
Aurelija Leleivaite-Bilodid was inspired by an article in the Rust-Oleum “Make It Yours” magazine, and decided to have a go at updating an old dark wooden cabinet by painting it with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Anthracite and Winter Grey. The stunning piece has been finished off with Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax and the handles painted with Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Craft Enamel in Gold.
Louise Murphy gave new life to an old dining room chair in her daughter’s bedroom by painting it with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Belgrave. She then finished it with some polka dot fabric for a fabulous transformation.
Jayne Stonely needed some storage but found the furniture she liked was out of her price range, so she found a large pine welsh dresser on ebay which she updated herself. She gave it some TLC — sanding and rubbing down the top before painting it with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Anthracite.
Natalie Blamire bought this nest of tables off Gumtree and decided to enhance them with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Duck Egg and Cocoa under layers of Chalk White (photo 6). After sanding she finished the tables with Rust-oleum Furniture Finishing Wax. Natalie is thrilled with the finished tables, “The results are amazing… In fact, they are so amazing that I have purchased another three vintage items of furniture to shabby chic… Will only be using Rust-oleum, the paint range and quality is fabulous!”
Nikki Balazs created a work of art using 3 china cups, which she drilled and linked together, then sprayed with Rust-Oleum Stone in Pebble.
Uninspired by flat pack furniture, Oliver Bontoft decided to buy an old sideboard which he then updated with Rust-Oleum Chalky Furniture Paint in Winter Grey. Finished with Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax and wallpaper (photo 8). He proudly explains, “We have a beautiful sideboard that is functional, receives very favourable comments from everyone who sees it and we have a massive sense of satisfaction knowing we have saved something perfectly usable and transformed it to fit in with our taste and decor.”
Adding a splash of colour to her garden, Toni Green has spray painted two old chairs with Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch in Berry Pink and Spa Blue, making them into unique garden planters.
Victoria Holloway has revamped an old, tatty table and chairs with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Antique White, finishing with some Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax the furniture looks like new.
