We all have furniture lying around the home that’s a little dated and the trusty chair is often first on the list.

Chairs can date quite quickly when you change the colour, look or feel of a room.
Rather than replace them, why not bring them back on trend by transforming them with a lick of paint?

The rocking chair (above) was a great find on an auction website. It had a dated, varnished finish but lots of potential.

As it isn’t part of a set we decided to make it a real statement piece and give it a new purpose.

We sprayed it with Rust-Oleum Universal Spray Paint in Sunset Orange (Gloss) and added co-ordinateding cushions to give it a fresher, modern feel ideal for a child’s bedroom.

Our next transformation was the ‘butterfly’ chair below which many people have in their homes.

We wanted to give it a retro 60s feel, so chose Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch in a rich, luxurious, deep red — Claret Wine (Satin) for a sophisticated, subtle finish. The finishing touch was the spotty pillow which went perfectly with the style and colour of the chair.

We left the legs in their original silver colour so unscrewed the legs and placed the seat onto newspaper before we got to work.
