A Shabby Chic Furniture Makeover

Shabby Chic Drawers

Painting dated and second-hand pieces of furniture to achieve a shabby chic finish is one of this year’s big interior decorating trends.

If you love unique, personalised furniture upcycling existing pieces is a bespoke (and cost saving) way to achieve the look.

Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint is available in 25 beautiful shades and dries to a soft, chalky, flat matt finish. Easy to apply, the paints can be combined to perfectly match the decor of a room. Simply apply one layer in your chosen shade and once dry, add a complimentary shade on top. Once the whole piece is dry, use sandpaper to sand back the corners and select areas to really get the look!

Once you have achieved your desired finish, seal your work with Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax or Lacquer which will create a soft lustre to the finished piece whilst adding a protective layer.

Shabby Chic Side Table

The shabby chic look is the perfect way to subtly mould older pieces so they match the interiors of a modern home without loosing their intricate charm.

If you’re not sure where to start go for a mix of whites and off-whites to create an elegant, classic look or provide standout against dark coloured backgrounds. Alternatively if it is a statement piece you are after, inject character and personality into a room by using bold, block colours.

Fancy giving it a go? Whether it’s a piece of furniture whose appearance you’ve tired of or a bargain from a charity shop, try to look beyond the current finish of your furniture and get those creative juices flowing!
