Thank you to all who entered our Make It Yours competition in November. It was a tough month for judging with a multitude of inspirational upcycles and transformation projects to choose from. However, with much deliberation we have chosen 10 runners up and our lucky top prizewinner.
The top prize this month of £250 went to Francesca Lawrence who ingeniously created bespoke centrepieces for her wedding using Rust-Oleum Metallic Bright Gold spray paint. She gave various plastic animals the Midas touch including a chicken, a flamingo, a chameleon and fox cake topper and 120 miniature unicorns. The outcome was amazing and brought a real personal touch to Francesca’s wedding decorations.
Lauren Thompson has added scandi chic to her newly decorated bedroom with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Chalk White. By watering down the paint and rubbing off any excess with a cloth, Lauren created a white wash effect panelled feature wall. To complete the look she also painted her bedside tables in Chalk White and waxed with Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax to protect.
Paulene Mcilrath skilfully painted her floor tiles using Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Floor Paint and Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint. With a mixture of custom made stencils and hand drawn patterns Paulene created a stag themed design for her hallway floor that is an instant update from the original terracotta tiles.
Charles Hinterleithner created much needed storage by adapting an old second hand chest of drawers and a scaffold board to create a bespoke bathroom vanity unit. Using Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Belgrave and a topcoat of Rust-Oleum Furniture Lacquer, Charles brought the design together and now loves showing off his new bathroom.
Kel Norton has cleverly repurposed a section of an old broken family table into a stylish and rustic table lamp. Using a combination of Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Chalk White and Anthracite, Kel distressed the effect to achieve a stunningly unique upcycle.
Izzy Harris purchased a set of side tables from her local charity shop and put her stamp on them using Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Anthracite. Once painted she swapped out the old fashioned green velvet top and replaced with three beautiful rococo art prints. All finished with a protective coat of Rust-Oleum Furniture Lacquer these now look stunning.
Marianna Popejoy has created some very stylish kitchen storage using a piece of metal garden trellis and a can of Rust-Oleum Universal All-Surface Spray Paint in Pure Gold. Placed above her kitchen sink it fits perfectly in with her brass kitchen accessories whilst also making a feature out of household items.
Tassie D’Andrea has given a vintage wardrobe a splash of colour with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Mustard and accented it with contrasting details of Graphite. Finished with a protective coat of Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax in Clear its now ready to be the main feature of her bedroom.
Victoria Cattanach has redecorated and upcycled her daughter’s bedroom using beautiful pastel colours from the Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish and Gloss Finish Furniture Paint ranges. The colour combinations work excellently together giving Victoria’s daughter a totally unique bedroom.
Thomas Cowell has totally transformed an old fashioned mahogany dining table and chairs using Mustard, Coral, Duck Egg, Laurel Green and Clotted Cream from the Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint range. With the tabletop sanded down to a lighter colour and the chairs protected with a coat of Rust-Oleum Finishing Wax the transformation is complete.
Claire Sanders has ingeniously repurposed a fireplace surround as a frame to her cooker splash back using Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Hessian. Finished with a coat of Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax in clear this is a brilliant upcycle that also doubles as a handy shelf for kitchen trinkets.
