DECEMBER 2016 COMPETITION WINNERS

Thank you to all who entered our Make It Yours competition in December.

As overwhelming numbers of entries come in each month, we are thrilled to see all of the imaginative upcycles and gorgeous transformations. So many creative projects made it a tough task to choose our favourites, but with much deliberation the ten runners up and our lucky top prizewinner have been chosen.

The top prize this month of £250 went to Emma Osbourn who upcycled this beautiful 1960/70s retro cabinet as a gift for her daughter. Leaving some of the original wood exposed further enhances the geometric detailing across the cabinet. Emma used Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Mocha and Blue Sky, Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch in Duck Egg Blue and Light Grey, and Rust-Oleum Metallic Finish Furniture Paint in Gold to create this stunning piece of furniture that is quirky and eye-catching. We love it!

Runners up

Marta Lazarek has gorgeously repurposed this old dark wooden telephone table into a bed for her pet cat. Using Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Slate she has transformed the look and feel of this once drab piece of furniture. Now Marta’s cat can snooze in style!

Louise Heath has created a shabby chic, driftwood Christmas wall-hanging, an ingenious alternative to the traditional Christmas tree. Having collected the driftwood herself from a beach, Louise used Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Chalk White and then added baubles and lights to finish the Christmas look.

Heather Eastham’s huge and beautiful vintage arts and crafts dark-wood dresser was previously used as a bar at her wedding. To coordinate it with her interior scheme Heather sanded down the hinges and edging and painted the rest with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Bramwell. Now this piece fits perfectly in her home.

Philippa Bargh has ingeniously repurposed an old Singer sewing machine it into a bathroom vanity unit. With the help of Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Slate, the sewing machine table has been totally repurposed. Finished with a decorative tiled backdrop, Philippa’s bathroom is now bang on trend.

Kat Pilanc has put her own unique and bold stamp on a bare-wood kitchen trolley. She achieved this look with Rust-Oleum Gloss Finish Furniture Paint in Lemon Sorbet and Mineral Grey. The yellow really makes this piece pop and for an additional layer of protection, Kat gave the piece a topcoat of Rust-Oleum Furniture Lacquer in Clear.

Kim Hughes purchased a charity shop chair that was in need of some love and a new lease of life. After carrying out some repairs, Kim painted the chair in Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Belgrave. To add the finishing touches she cleverly decoupaged the seat using Rust-Oleum paint colour charts to create a colourful pattern.

Louise Donnelly has given her pine sideboard a new lease of life with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Antique White, Mustard, Duck Egg, China Rose and Flint. With a combination of these colour pops and new handles, this sideboard has been completely transformed into a contemporary and chic piece.

Mardona Phillips has upcycled a French Louis style leather chair, which she purchased second hand. Using Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Cotton White, she has renovated the frame of the chair with a crisp white coat. To coordinate and update the fabric, Mardona used Rust-Oleum Flexible Fabric Paint in Silver. With the makeover complete this chair now oozes glamour and sophistication!

Maria Vavrova has made over a drab pine dining set into a beautiful pastel masterpiece. She achieved the chair makeover with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Dusky Pink, Mustard, Powder Blue and Laurel Green. For the table and dresser Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Chalk White has been used. All pieces of furniture were then distressed and protected with Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax in Clear, to lock in the look.

Istvan Manyoki has created a unique paneled wall made with reclaimed wood by sanding, painting or waxing every piece of timber individually. Various effects were achieved with Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Carbon and Slate, Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Chalk White, Blue Silk and Powder Blue, and all finished with a protective coat of Rust-Oleum Furniture Lacquer in Clear. Istvan has beautifully created a bespoke panelled wall that is the epitome of upcycling.
