Thank you to all who entered our Make It Yours competition in October. It was a tough month for judging with a multitude of inspirational upcycles and transformation projects to choose from. However, with much deliberation we have chosen 10 runners up and our lucky top prizewinner.
The top prize this month of £250 went to Janet Bennet who completely transformed her floor using Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Floor Paint in Anthracite for the base, and then mixed Anthracite and Chalk White to create a pale grey for the stencilled design. To add extra glimmer Janet used Rust-Oleum Metallic Finish Furniture Paint in Silver and dabbled the stencil design to make it sparkle, this looks amazing!
Carrie Bremner upcycled a dark wood chest of drawers and mirror with the help of Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Winter Grey, Antique White and China Rose. Carrie created a quirky geometric design and added a protective coat of clear Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax to seal her masterpiece.
Miranda Watson decided her mahogany chest of drawers was too dark for her room and gave it a unique makeover. Using Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Duck Egg, Miranda painted each drawer and whilst the paint was still wet, scratched designs of birds and flowers into the paint to reveal the original wood beneath. A second coat was then applied followed by clear Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax. This looks fantastic!
Peter Maxwell-Aylwin gave an old bureau a new lease of life with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Chalk White, Anthracite and Winter Grey. This transformation was completed by painting the details with Rust-Oleum Metallic Finish Furniture Paint in Gold to finish the look. Great job Peter!
Amanda Sullivan added a modern twist to her wooden dining chairs using Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Clotted Cream and Dusky Pink. Amanda began by masking off the sections she did not want to paint and then filled in the rest, it looks fab!
Debbie Chesters used Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Floor Paint in Chalk White to completely transform her hallway. The bright colour has really lightened the room!
Laura Owen upcycled an old 1940s glazed cabinet with Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Craft Enamel in Ocean Blue. Laura sprayed this quirky piece of furniture to create a fun new look, we especially love the dog wallpaper lining the inside!
Rachael Anderson was tired of her boring nest of tables and decided to undertake a geometric black and gold makeover. Rachael did this using Rust-Oleum Surface Primer as a base, then painted the tables with Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Carbon. Following this, she masked out areas to create her pattern, and sprayed the shapes in Rust-Oleum Metallic Bright Gold. Finally Rachael added a protective coat of clear Rust-Oleum Furniture Lacquer.
Ruth Brayshaw bought a piano for just £30 from a charity shop and with a lick of paint it looks brand new! Ruth used Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Carbon to achieve this look and we love it!
Valentina Guerrieri painted a beautiful sideboard using Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Cocoa, Antique White, Bramwell and Duck Egg. Valentina painted the outside or the unit in Duck Egg and the inside with Cocoa. She then used a stencil to create the Antique White pattern and highlights. The unit was protected and final details added with Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax in Clear and Dark.
Irene Weaver painted a tall writing bureau with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Clotted Cream. The handles were also sprayed in Rust-Oleum Metallic Bright Gold and the stencilling detail was achieved with Rust-Oleum Metallic Finish Furniture Paint in Gold.
