Thank you to all who entered our Make it Yours competition in January. It was a tough month for judging with so many inspirational upcycles and transformation projects to choose from. However, with much deliberation, we have chosen 10 runners up and our lucky top prize winner.
The top prize this month of £250 went to Rachel Havenhand who had an old Samsung sound system that was given her by her granny. She loved the sound but hated how it looked in her colourful home, so decided to have a go at painting it.
She primed first with Rust-Oleum Surface Primer then added a colourful coating of Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch in French Lilac. She then used a white paint pen to draw on the button prompts and added a shadow effect with a hot pink Sharpie pen. Amazing!
Debbie Cocking freshened up a wall cool wire shelf rack with Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch in Dark Grey Gloss to tie it in with her colour scheme.
Elizabeth Tetlow gave her double pedestal desk a glamorous makeover. First she painted the wood with Rust-Oleum Metallic Finish Furniture Paint in Gold. Second she added a coating of Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Hessian. Once dry, she distressed the paint to revel the gold underneath. Finally, she protected her work with Rust-Oleum Furniture Lacquer in Matt.
Rachel Smith-Evans saved a beautiful 90 year old piano from landfill and updated it with a fun Beatles theme. She painted the paint with Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Cotton and also added song lyrics to the front and sides.
Helen painted a large antique pine chest of drawers in multiple colours to compliment her newly decorated bedroom. She used Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Cotton and Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Duck Egg and protected the paintwork with Rust-oleum Furniture Finishing Wax in Clear. She also created a stained effect on some of the unpainted wood with Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax, Dark.
Jan gave three wooden stools a colourful makeover with Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch spray paint in; Bright Orange, Bright Yellow, Candy Pink, White and Aqua.
Amber created a quirky vintage china cabinet that she picked up second hand for a bargain price. The cabinet had seen better days as it was chipped, stained and marked. Amber cleaned it up brought it back to life with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Laurel Green and protected the paintwork Rust-Oleum Furniture Lacquer in Clear Matt. We love the funky wallpaper used inside too.
Fiona updated a 1940s dark wooden cabinet with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in the colour Graphite. She added detail around the edges by distressing with sandpaper. Finally, she added a coat of Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax in Dark to enhance the colour and depth of the piece overall.
Kinga Budzinska transformed a pine tall chest of drawers with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Mustard and added fun monochrome prints to the drawer fronts. Well done!
