JULY 2018 COMPETITION WINNERS

Thank you to all who entered our Make It Yours competition in July. It was a tough month for judging with a multitude of inspirational upcycles and transformation projects to choose from. However, with much deliberation we have chosen 10 runners up and our lucky top prizewinner.

The top prize this month of £250 went to Scott Friery who created a quirky shelving unit by repurposing an internal door! He halved the door lengthways and used L brackets to attach at 90 degrees. Scott then used a sheet of MDF to create the shelves. His project was painted with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Powder Blue and Lilac wine. He then used Rust-Oleum Rose Gold Metallic spray paint on the handle and hinges. Very creative!

Runners up

Leanne picked up this vintage half moon table for just £10. After adding a layer of decoupage in mock croc, she painted her project with Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Carbon and Rust-Oleum Metallic Finish Furniture Paint in Gold. We love it!

Becky Preston gave a vintage wardrobe, purchased on Ebay for £15, a stunning makeover with a little creativity and Rust-Oleum paint. After sanding the wardrobe, she added a layer of Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Chalk White. Becky then masked the wardrobe and painted her fantastic design. Once dry, she added Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax in Clear to protect her masterpiece.

Abbie King created her own tropical paradise by upcycling two old side tables. Abbie removed the wheels before painting her projects with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Anthracite and Sage Green. Once dry, she inserted some funk wallpaper to finish the look!

Stacey Rosser painted this beautiful cutlery storage unit using Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Chalk White. One dry, she lightly distressed the unit and added a layer of clear wax for protection. To finish it off she inserted some pretty wallpaper, adding a pop of colour.

Monkia Figas took this on old set of drawers and turned them into a work of art by adding an ombre effect with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Hessian, Graphite and Lilac Wine. She then finished off her drawers by adding pretty glass handles.

Mark Wilkinson made a mudroom bench from scratch! He painted the panelling and base with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Winter Grey and left the seat in natural pine. He then added a layer of Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax in Clear to protect the paint.

Lee gave his battered garden furniture a colourful makeover with Rust-Oleum. After repairing a few broken pieces and sanding the wood, Lee painted his furniture with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Garden Furniture Paint in Chalk White, Powder Blue, Clotted Cream, Hessian and Anthracite.

Billie toned down a loud red cabinet that no longer matched the décor in the bathroom. To prepare the surface, Billie primed the cabinet with Rust-Oleum Surface Primer in White and added a fresh coat of colour with Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch in Slate Blue.

Jennie turned a damaged butlers tray into a pretty work of art! After removing the peeling sticker she created her design with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Antique White, Ink Blue and Belgrave. Once dry, she added a protective coat with Rust-Oleum Furniture Lacquer spray.

Melissa Tweed transformed a small set of Ikea table and chairs for her children’s playroom by adding a pop of pretty colour with Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Pink Champagne. She then created a dipped leg effect with Rust-Oleum Metallic Finish Furniture Paint in Gold. To finish off the look, she added marble contact paper to the table top and chair seats. We love it!
