Chris Whalen has beautifully rejuvenated a set of old drawers using Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Chalk White as the main colour and framing sections with Duck Egg. Using the shabby-chic effect Chris has then distressed the drawers to bring out the features. Refitting the original handles perfectly finishes the piece off.

Claire Martindale inherited a dated but functional dining room table and chairs from her aunt but wasn’t in love with the dark old-fashioned wood. To bring it up to date she embarked on her first furniture refurbishment project and decided to paint the table and reupholster the chairs with a more modern look. She started by painting the table and chairs in Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint in Shortbread and covering the seat cushions with an up to date patterned fabric. Claire says she couldn’t be happier with the result and was delighted to have a table and six chairs in time for Christmas.

Colette Flitcroft has given her kitchen an instant facelift by painting over the dated wood finish with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Winter Grey. A simple coat of paint has transformed Colette’s kitchen and made it look like new without any of the expense of a refit. To finish off, the paint work has been sealed with a coat of Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax to seal and protect the painted surface.

Grigor Scott has ingeniously transformed an old ladder into a smart towel rail for his new bathroom by first cutting up the ladder then sanding the wood smooth and rounding off the top edges. To finish he gave the ladders a coat of Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Flint then wiped over the paint work with Chalk White to create a grey wash effect. Sealed with a coat of Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax the ladders are a brilliant feature in Grigor’s bathroom.

Helen O’Brien took on the renovation of a set of coffee tables as her first upcycling project and as a result has been inspired to go on and produce and sell more pieces. To tackle her first project she prepared the tables by removing the glass from the table tops, she then used Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint -removing the old green leatherette, replacing this with a Parisian themed paper, giving the updated piece a sophisticated French feel.

Joanne Moody rescued an unwanted organ and gave it a completely new look with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Clotted Cream. With the addition of some stencils and subtle sanding to distress the piece, it has new lease of life — albeit a quieter one!

A huge amount of skill and creativity went into the fantastic Doctor Who themed entry from Kayleigh King, who built a drinks cupboard from scratch, which she then painted with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Ink Blue to transform it into the Doctor’s Tardis! It was finished with Rust-Oleum Clear Furniture Lacquer — a sensible idea that will protect the finish from any spillages that may arise during time travel.

Yana Kalugina updated a child’s desk and chair which started out life in pink. Yana used Rust-Oleum Surface Primer spray paint in grey as a perfect base her top coat design which gives the desk a new, modern feel.

Using just some string, wallpaper paste, an inflatable ball and some spray paint – Marleen de Veij has made a new, bespoke lampshade! Having been soaked in paste, the string was wrapped around the ball and left to dry — the ball was then deflated and removed. Marleen chose Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch spray paint in Sun Yellow to add a bold splash of colour to her lampshade.

Michelle Simpson has transformed 4 dated, dark wood dining chairs with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in Pumpkin, Dusky Pink and Belgrave. She then top-coated them with Anthracite and sanded back the top-coat to reveal the colour beneath. To protect the finish she has used Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax. The addition of a colourful, modern fabric finishes the chairs perfectly.
