Hand-drawn details add a personal touch to an adult bedroom and provide plenty of opportunities for the little ones to make their mark if it’s children’s furniture you’re looking to update. For the organisational geeks among you, we don’t need to tell you how useful chalkboard detailing can be if you have a love for labeling!
We went for classic black for our drawer update but Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Paint comes in four shades allowing you to match the interior of the room and get creative with various coloured chalks.
Take a look at our easy how-to guide below or watch our quick video above to get the low down. Chalks at the ready!
To make things nice and easy, start by removing the drawers from the frame so you can reach in all the nooks and apply a solid coat to the edges.
To improve paint adhesion, give the drawer fronts a light sand with fine grit sandpaper. Previously painted surfaces should always be abraded to provide a key (rough surface).
As with any painting make sure the surfaces are clean, dry and free from grease or contaminants by wiping over with a damp cloth.
Always mask off the areas near to where you’ll be painting with painter’s tape to keep things neat and tidy.
When you’re ready, give the paint a good stir, following the directions on the can to ensure it’s fully mixed.
Then simply apply the paint with a suitable sized brush or roller, giving it 2-3 coats for best results. Always leave a minimum of two hours between coats or as directed on the tin.
Once the paint is fully dry your new chalkboard drawers are ready to write on — just slot them back into the frame and grab some chalk.
